Richard Garvey is a partner in the Didriksen Law Firm. He is resident in the New Orleans office and has been with the firm since April 2005.
Mr. Garvey joined the Louisiana Bar in 1991 after graduating from Loyola School of Law, and has actively practiced in insurance defense. After earning an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Tulane University in 1980, he worked as an engineer, primarily in computer related fields, for eight years before deciding on a career in law.
His current civil practice often focuses on forensic engineering issues, and the defense and prosecution of related claims. His engineering background and experience with complex products liability matters makes him uniquely suited to this type of practice.
Mr. Garvey also regularly handles subrogation claims, environmental cases, product liability claims, and other property and casualty defense cases. Recent and ongoing litigation include class actions and industrial disasters.
Mr. Garvey has practiced extensively in Louisiana state courts and federal. Currently, he is admitted to practice in all state courts of Louisiana, the Eastern, Middle, and Western Federal District Courts of Louisiana, and the Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to having significant trial experience, he has argued reported cases before the Louisiana Supreme Court and appellate courts, and the Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
